Smyth County Economic
Development
Business Opportunities

Smyth
County's prime Southeastern location and interstate highway
access, combined with the quality of its workforce, have made it
one of the fastest growing manufacturing centers in
Virginia in recent years.
-
- The county has a
diversified group of industries, and throughout th
e 1990’s,
apparel, furniture making, and automotive parts came to be the
dominant industries. Over 50,000 persons
make up the workforce in the
surrounding labor market area, and thirty industries
located within the county employ almost 7000 workers.
-
- Within
Smyth County alone, there is an abundance of productive, trained
and trainable workers available to prospective employers. Employers within the
county have received productivity awards due to the county's
strong work ethic. These businesses exclaim, “Smyth
County’s workforce is very loyal, quality conscious, and
dedicated to the goals of the company”.
-
-
To
aid regional businesses, local community colleges offer customized
training programs to provide employers with educated and skilled
workers. In addition, businesses located in Smyth County can take
advantage of many incentives offered by the State and regional
Enterprise Zones.
-
- Over
500,000 square feet of building space is available for
manufacturing or distribution in the county, including the 90,000+
square foot Pepsi Building in Marion, and a 40,000 square foot industrial shell
building in Saltville. Smyth County is a partner with adjoining
Washington County on a new 300-acre regional industrial park
located near Interstate 81.
-
-
If
loyalty, dedication, and quality are
the
key to success from a labor standpoint, Smyth County is guaranteed
to go
Beyond
Your Expectations!
