Smyth County's prime Southeastern location and interstate highway access, combined with the quality of its workforce, have made it one of the fastest growing manufacturing centers in Virginia in recent years.  

 

The county has a diversified group of industries, and throughout the 1990’s, apparel, furniture making, and automotive parts came to be the dominant industries. Over 50,000 persons make up the workforce in the surrounding labor market area, and thirty industries located within the county employ almost 7000 workers.

 

Within Smyth County alone, there is an abundance of productive, trained and trainable workers available to prospective employers. Smyth County is a partner with adjoining Washington County on a new 300-acre regional industrial park located near Interstate 81.
