Parks and Recreation

Smyth County, Virginia offers a rich environment of recreational activities. Hungry Mother State Park, Hemlock Haven Conference Center, the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area (Jefferson National Forest), and the Clinch Mountain Wildlife Management Area are located in Smyth County, offering numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation, including hiking, camping, mountain biking, horseback riding, trout fishing and hunting. 
 
For indoor recreation, the county boasts an exceptionally well-equipped 54,000 square foot Lifetime Wellness Center with Olympic-size indoor pool, basketball and racquetball courts, weight room, exercise room, dance room, and meeting space.
 
The Museum of the Middle Appalachians in Saltville is a repository for the paleo-archeological findings from annual digs.  The museum showcases five permanent displays:  The Ice Age, Woodland Indians, The Civil War, The Company Town, and Rocks and Minerals of the Appalachian area.  In addition, there is a Smyth County Museum in Marion and the Settler’s Museum in the eastern part of the county.
