Project Lifesaver is a program now available to Smyth County citizens through
the Smyth County Sheriff's Office.

Jail
The Smyth County Jail built in 1972 closed on April 9, 2005 after 33
years of operations. Smyth County inmates are now being incarcerated
at the Abingdon Regional Jail. The new facility is part of the
Southwest Regional Jail Authority. The Authority is comprised of three
facilities that are located in Abingdon, Haysi and Duffield. The
Abingdon Regional Jail serves Washington, Russell, Tazewell and Smyth
Counties.
