County Taxes
2006 Personal Property Taxes
Personal property taxes for the year
2006 are taxed
at a rate of $2.25 per $100.00 of value as stated in the NADA Blue Book for January 1st of
the same tax year. The rate for airplanes is $1.40 per $100.00 of
value.

Real Estate Taxes
Real estate taxes for the year 2006
are taxed at a rate of $0.63 per $100.00 as based on the assessment that is done every six years.
Pet Tags
All pet tags expire and are due in December, but the
month of January is given to purchase them. The tags are available throughout the
year and need to be purchased as soon as your dog or cat has their first rabies
vaccination. When purchasing pet tags you will need to bring proof of your pet's
rabies vaccination with you. The prices for the tags are: $3.00 for males,
$5.00 for females, $1.00 for unsexed, and $25.00 for kennel tags.
County Decals
Smyth
County decals are due
in March and need to be placed on the vehicle as soon as they are purchased.
If you purchase a vehicle throughout the year a decal must be placed on
the vehicle within 10 days from the date of purchase. There are two
locations aside from the courthouse that decals may be purchased. Those locations are: Davidson Tire Service on Hwy. 107 and Kell's
Trading Post on Saltville Hwy. If you live within the municipal
limits of Saltville, Chilhowie or Marion your decals must be purchased at
your town hall. Decals are currently $15.00 and require your county
and town personal property to be paid in full or a payment arrangement be
made and maintained. In reference to trading vehicles the valid
county decal needs to be scraped from the vehicle sold and then brought in
for a free transfer. If the sticker falls apart upon removal, please
bring in all of the pieces.
