Animal Control
Our responsibilities include the enforcement of local
and state animal control laws, the humane capture and treatment of unwanted
animals, investigation of animal abuse, neglect, cruelty, and the provision
of emergency transportation and care for injured animals within our
jurisdiction.
Smyth County Animal Control provides humane euthanasia for animals in
order to prevent suffering as well as over population. We also provide
euthanasia for residential pets in Smyth County when they become terminally
ill or injured and can no longer enjoy their quality of life.
The Smyth County Animal Shelter provides a comfortable, warm and safe
environment for animals received unwanted, abused or abandoned. We
provide adoption services for animals with suitable dispositions in an
effort to place them within a nurturing environment. We believe that
shelter animals can become the loving, caring companions that are needed and
wanted by our society today.
