Smyth County, Virginia
Inclement Weather Court Closings
As
the Circuit Court Clerk's Office renders an essential service to the
public, it is rare for the Circuit Court Clerk's Office to close for
inclement weather. In the rare event of schedule changes, announcements
will be made via local news media outlets and on the Clerk's social
media Facebook page. Please note that, while it can be confusing, a
single weather event may prompt some offices and courts within the
courthouse and county to close while others may remain open.
Parking
Parking is permitted in any spot within the courthouse parking lots
except those restricted or marked as reserved. A two-story parking
deck with 96 spaces is located less than a block away from the
courthouse, with its lower level being accessible from Court Street and
its upper level being accessed from Strother Street. Some
on-street parking is available, as well, but please avoid parking in the
residential neighborhood adjacent to the courthouse, when possible.
Entrance to the Courthouse
The only public
entrance to the courthouse is the one facing Church Street. Those
seeking entry to the courthouse can expect to encounter certain security
measures by bailiffs at the entrance.
Weapons of any sort, including pocket-knives, are not allowed
anywhere in the courthouse. Visitors who are going to court are
not allowed to bring cell phones, purses, or drinks into the courtrooms.
As for appropriate clothing, neither tank tops, halter tops, shorts, nor
hats may be worn in the courtrooms.
Photography and videography are not allowed within the
courthouse without permission.
