Note: There will be a $50.00 return check fee imposed for all returned checks to the Smyth County Treasurer's Office.

your payment in order to get the correct payment amount.

Cash, check, credit card or electronic debit are acceptable payment methods.
Visa, Master Card and Discover credit cards are accepted for local taxes,
pet tags and county vehicle decals.
The Treasurer's Office cannot accept credit cards for State Income Taxes and
Estimated Income Taxes. Visit the
Virginia Department of Taxation website for more information.
Prepayment Options:
Should you prefer to pay your taxes on a monthly basis, there are prepayment
options available to you.

Pay in Person |
Pay at the Treasurer's Office located on the first floor of the
Smyth County Courthouse. You may pre-pay any amount at any
time. This is credited against what your current year taxes
will be and once tax tickets are mailed, your prepayments will show
on the ticket as a credit. |

Pay by Mail |
Mail check or
money order to: Treasurer of Smyth County, P.O. Box 549, Marion, VA
24354. (Please include your Social Security Number and real estate
account number on the check to ensure credit is given to the proper
account. |

Electronic Debit |
You may complete a signature card and have your checking or
savings account electronically debited on the fifth day of each
month. You specify the amount to be debited and this will be
credited against your current year's taxes. |
