Warrant DivisionThe Criminal Warrant Office is responsible for the service of all criminal warrants and capiases issued by the courts. In 2022, approximately 2,969 criminal warrants/papers were served.

Civil Process DivisionThe deputies responsible for serving civil papers are Sgt. Steve Widener and Deputy Travis Bresette.
In 2022, approximately 11,947 civil papers were served. Civil papers include subpoenas, writs, show causes, garnishments, summons, and warrants in debt throughout the County of Smyth. They also execute evictions, levies on property, sales, and seizures of property.

Eviction ProcessTo start the eviction process:
- Send (registered letter with return receipt requested is recommended) a five-day Pay or Quit Notice (for non-payment of rent), or send or have served upon the tenant, a 30-day Notice (for any other acceptable reason)
- File for possession of the property with a Summons for Unlawful Detainer in General District Court (tenant is unlawfully "detaining" your property)
- Once judgment is granted and no appeal has been noted by the defendant, then a Writ of Possession can be filed. The Writ of Possession gives authority to the Sheriff to provide protection in order for the plaintiff to remove the belongings of the ten
